Giveaway: $25 American Express GC from Nutrition Possible

Every morning after I get the wee ones their breakfast and milk (or rice milk, in the case of Little Miss), I open our vitamin drawer. I hand over the Vitamin D and elderberry to boost their immune systems in the winter, Calcium-Magnesium to Little Miss since she can't have dairy, fish oil to Mister Man to help boost his focus, multi-vitamins to both - and suddenly I feel like I'm going overboard. I want to do the right things for the wee ones and for me, but it's hard to know what to do, especially when there are so many options out there.

With them, I make sure I've figured out at least some of it. For me, well... I gave up on me. It's just too confusing. Proof? This is the vitamin section at my store. I can't even truly call it an "aisle" because it encompasses multiple aisles. Frequently, even if I narrow down what vitamin I'm looking for, there are multiple dosages available, adding to the confusion. As I stood here yesterday, I actually watched two different people stand in the aisles holding vitamin bottles comparing them back and forth, trying to figure out what they should choose.

See what I mean? Seriously, that's a lot of health being sold every day!

I was recently asked to take a nutritional assessment on Nutrition Possible. The assessment was fairly thorough, I thought, asking about everything from how much I exercise to what foods I eat to my biggest concerns and more. In the end, the goods news is that I get high marks for several areas including fruits and veggies. Phew! I was surprised that my seafood intake needs to increase more. I thought I was doing sort of ok there, but apparently that lobster risotto I chose to eat last night was the right move! Whole grains was my other area where I fell short, which is mostly because I eat few grains most days altogether. Oops. It's a good reminder.

In the end, the assessment recommended three Centrum supplements (yes, Nutrition Possible is a Centrum promotion) for me. There was a multi-vitamin, one with phytonutrients, and Omega-3. It was nice to see not just what supplements Nutrition Possible recommended for me based on my assessment but also how much of each I should be taking. That definitely takes out a lot of the confusion and guesswork.

Did I mention that by taking the assessment, I also received a coupon for $10 off any Centrum Pronutrients supplement with purchase of a Centrum Multi-vitamin. The coupon is mailed to me, so I haven't started any new regiments yet!

Beyond just supplements, the assessment's results also recommended other changes. To increase my suggested foods, there was a list provided of foods I could eat more often. And if I'm not into that wheat English muffin? I can simply click the little "x" and it disappears to be replaced by something else - quinoa in this case. Yum, I forgot about how much I love quinoa! There were also suggested activities from dance moves to snacking on nuts instead of chips, with each one showing the benefits I receive from indulging in that activity. It's actually sort of fun, and as I make changes to my diet and activities, I can update my assessment to reflect those changes and get new recommendations.

Are you ready to get un-confused, too? Oh, and while doing so, do you have any interest in winning a $25 American Express gift card? I thought so. So what do you have to do to win the prize pack? First of all, let me stress that you must follow all the rules. If you do not follow the rules, your entry will not count!

Giveaway: Big G Prize Package With Gift Card

We are Star Wars fanatics around here. Last year, both wee ones were Storm Troopers for Halloween. (I learned the difference about this time last year between a Storm Trooper and a Clone Trooper.) This year, Little Miss is a Storm Trooper again - yay reusing costumes - and Mister Man is going to be a Jedi knight. I hear about Star Wars morning, noon, and night. The release of the complete saga last month, I've heard nothing but Star Wars everywhere.

While I won't let the wee ones watch all movies yet, we're finding ways to incorporate Star Wars into the wee ones' lives where we can. There are Star Wars books we've gotten from the library and the Star Wars Legos we play with constantly. The other day, I received a package that more than made the wee ones' days.

As thrilling as they found the gift card - they've learned already that gift cards mean money to spend in stores, though I'm not sure this is a good or bad lesson. Ok ok, I admit, this wasn't the view that thrilled them, as happy as they've been for the past several days to have Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast, along with a large scoop of peanut butter, half an orange, and a glass of milk (or rice milk in the case of Little Miss).

This was the view that enthralled them:

I made the mistake of putting together this little panorama during dinner. It was too tempting not to. Unfortunately, it also proved to be too tempting for the wee ones, who kept trying to get up from the table to stare at the "very most coolest ever" cereal boxes. I've had to promise that when we finish the cereal, I will cut out the backs of the boxes and let Mister Man hang them in his room.

These cereal boxes can be found exclusively at WalMart on specially marked boxes of Big G cereals - including Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. The front of the boxes show if they are part 1, 2, or 3, so you can make sure the cereal you purchase makes the full panorama (or two, if you have multiple children requesting them on their walls, ahem.)

I have a prize pack to give to one lucky reader. The prize pack includes three Big G cereals - Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch that together form the panoramic poster, plus a $25 gift card to WalMart. So what do you have to do to win? First of all, let me stress that you must follow all the rules. If you do not follow the rules, your entry will not count!

This contest is open until Monday October 17 at 7pm CST. I must have a valid way to reach you, so leave me your email address in your comment or be sure your profile has your email address visible. No duplicate comments will count. This giveaway is open to US residents age 18 and older. Winners will be selected via random.org and must respond within 48 hours of being notified by me or I will select a new winner.

Mandatory Entry: Tell me your favorite Star Wars character.

Bonus Entries (leave a comment for each entry - if you put it all in one comment, I'll count it as one entry):

1) Earn one additional entry for following me on Twitter, then tweeting this contest with the following tweet: "Love Star Wars? Win a Big G prize pack & make a panoramic poster +$25GC via #giveaway from @honestandtruly http://bit.ly/rhVIcY" (leave a link to your tweet as your comment and make sure you do all the steps!)
2) Earn one additional entry by following this review blog publicly via Google Friend Connect.
3) Earn one additional entry by following my “regular” blog Honest & Truly! publicly via Google Friend Connect.

And no, you won't earn any extra entries for it, but you will get good karma for liking me on Facebook!

Good luck!

In the interest of full disclosure, I received a prize pack as described above for review purposes from General Mills through MyBlogSpark. I was not compensated for this campaign. That said as always, all opinions expressed remain my own.

Giveaway: Moe's Southwest Grill

There are some restaurants I adore and go to time and again. And there are some restaurants that I drive past and say to myself, "I really want to try that place!" time and time again. And again. Moe's Southwest Grill had been such a place, ever since it opened up a location near me ohhhh maybe four years ago now.

I love southwestern food, with its slightly spicy and oh so flavorful tastes. Thus my recent foray into making homemade mole (Mexican red sauce) again. Burritos, rice bowls, nachos - oh great, my mouth is watering again.

Why I never went there, I have no idea. It was always on my to do list, but I never did. I have now. And now I regret not having gone earlier. They have a huge menu - including a kids' menu with kid sized tacos, burritos, or quesadillas.

Oh, and did I mention that you get free chips and salsa with every meal you order? And this is a beautiful, rich, chunky salsa with some really great crispy chips. I could make a meal of just this ... but I didn't.

Instead, I made myself order something else.

You don't want to know how long I stood there hemming and hawing and trying to decide if I wanted a burrito or a rice bowl. Or how long I debated between quesadillas or a salad. I really wished I'd brought a friend along at that point, but it was too late.

I finally decided on a burrito, loving that they have both the regular version and a smaller "junior" size, meaning I'd have less to take home. As much as I love to eat, I still only eat until I'm not hungry and then save the rest, and I detest wasting food. Decision made, I went with the junior joey bag of donuts. Ok, seriously, do you or do you not love restaurants with creative names for their dishes? I love the whimsy of it and to me it shows people who love food and aren't just cooking because it's a job and their business.

My junior joey bag of donuts - which still makes me smile to just type - was made just for me, and it came out in the cutest box I've ever seen! As I dug in, I was in heaven. Along with my free salsa and chips - I did mention that every order comes with free salsa and chips, right? - I sat and munched and enjoyed my food. I loved that it was all fresh food, nothing frozen here, and I could taste the difference.

Even the junior size ended up being too big for me, so I took it home to eat later, which worked out nicely when I didn't have time to make dinner that night. There is the option to make your entree into a meal by adding a drink and a side of guacamole, a side of queso, a cup of beans, a cup of rice, or a cookie. As delicious as those sound, I wasn't up for it that day. For me, that would be a great way to have a light meal with a friend - enjoying the entree with our chips and salsa and a side. Yum!

I resolved to try the nachos next time. Or maybe the quesadillas. Or to maybe bring a friend so we could have both. Because, really? Yum. And with the nut free dishes and the gluten free options and dairy free options, this has now become my favorite suggestion for friends with kids who have allergies and intolerances - and there are lots of those!

As great as the food tastes, I like the philosophy behind Moe's, too. They are focused on providing healthy options - and I love that their allergen information is so accessible and that there are no nut items onsite or in their recipes at all - and going beyond that into environmental sustainability. As they put it:

Sustainability is all about meeting the needs of current generations without affecting the needs of future generations. We are doing our part to reduce environmental impact by serving ingredients like grass-fed steak, grain-fed pork, local produce (where our safety and quality standards can be met), and a delicious meat alternative - organic tofu.

Do they have a dollar menu? Nope. Would I rather be ordering off this menu with grass-fed beef and local produce with no rBGH, steroids, trans fats or MSG from a restaurant with neither a microwave nor a freezer? Yeah. And that doesn't mean it was expensive, either. Tacos are under $3, and there isn't an entree option at $9 - and that includes their Fat Sam fajitas (see more fun names!) with choice of meat with lettuce, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, grilled peppers, onions, guacamole and sour cream and three tortillas. That is a lot of food, people!

Moe's is on a mission to help people make healthy choices, with their food mission wheel. The wheel highlights special menu items that may fit into your healthy eating from gluten free items (the sour cream, chicken, steak, pork, and more than 20 fresh ingredients) to their whole grain tortillas (and why whole grains are good) to their meats (and what makes them unusual in a good way) and more. I love it!

And I'm pretty sure you will, too. Wanna try Moe's if you haven't already? Here's hoping there's one near you. I've got a $25 gift card for you to check out Moe's - although I suggest bringing a friend so you don't get stuck in the ordering dilemma I did!

So what do you have to do to win a $25 to go try out Moe's for yourself? First of all, let me stress that you must follow all the rules. If you do not follow the rules, your entry will not count!

This contest is open until Sunday April 17 at 7pm CST.

Mandatory Entry: With Moe's new vegetarian entrees, they are participating in Meatless Mondays, a trend to eat less meat for a variety of reasons. What's your favorite Meatless Monday meal (either from Moe's or at home)?

Bonus Entries (leave a comment for each entry - if you put it all in one comment, I'll count it as one entry):

1) Earn one additional entry for following me on Twitter and tweeting this contest with the following tweet: "Yum! Get dinner tonight with a $25GC from Moe's Southwest Grill & @honestandtruly http://bit.ly/i6jF8K" (leave a link to your tweet as your comment and make sure you do all the steps!)

In the interest of full disclosure, I received a $25 Moe's gift card for review purposes, as Food Mission mousepad, and Moe-vision sunglasses. There was no compensation involved. All opinions expressed are my own.

Giveaway: Build-A-Bear Workshop Giftcard

I have been a fan of the Build-A-Bear Workshop for a long time. I love how friendly they are and how you can personalize your bear with everything from the sound you put inside to the outfit to the name you give on the birth certificate. The store is so friendly and inviting, and there's always something new. I suppose there's a reason Little Miss's bed is completely covered in animals. And Mister Man's, too.

The Build-A-Bear Workshop regularly comes out with new animals from those that support a particular charity such as Turner the Owl, who supports literacy and education programs and the new Star Wars bear. This holiday season, there is a whole line from Rudolph, including Rudolph himself, Clarice, and Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster. Hal and Holly Moose are also back, as is their holiday special.

Just as Build-A-Bear Workshop supports charities with the specially designated bears they sell, you can help, too. Through the end of November, you can donate $1 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In December, you can donate $1 to support Toys for Tots. The weekend of December 3-6, there will be a toy drive for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation in all stores if you have any new and unwrapped toys to share.

Mister Man and I visited a Build-A-Bear Workshop near us to make a new bear for Mister Man from one of their new lines. Not surprisingly, Mister Man immediately gravitated towards the Star Wars collection. He decided upon the Midnight Teddy immediately, but the clothing was a more difficult choice.

Fortunately, I forgot my camera, so we had to head back to my car to retrieve it, giving him more time to think about his choice. Of course, it wasn't in my car either, so I was reduced to using my phone, but it works.

Once we returned to the store, Mister Man finally decided on a Darth Vader costume, and we were ready to stuff. Interestingly, we had yet to be approached or even acknowledged by any of the four people working at Build-A-Bear in either of our trips into the store or around the store. Mister Man actually had to walk up to the counter and interrupt three of them having a conversation (and not about a work topic, mind you) to ask if he could stuff his bear. Fortunately, he wasn't bothered by it, but it definitely was not their usual above and beyond customer service this time around.

As always, he did the extra special wishes for his bear's heart before he put it in, rubbing it on his muscles to make it strong, on his cheeks so his bear would always smile, on his ears so his bear would always be there to listen to him, and the like. He loves all the ways he makes that heart really mean something rather than it simply being a piece of the puzzle.

Once his bear was adequately stuffed, he gave it a bath. I cracked up as Mister Man held it under the "shower" and made the water noise before using the brush to scrub it. The imagination brought out by Build-A-Bear Workshop is always precious to me.

The Darth Vader costume Mister Man chose included the (correct color!) light saber, a cape, a hood, and the main costume. Because it had multiple pieces, it requires an adult to carefully remove the tags to ensure the costume doesn't rip before you get it out of the store. Getting it on is fortunately something that Mister Man can do (mostly) himself. We did discover that the costume would have better fit the smaller $10 bear, but we got it on. It gives me leverage for a $10 bear next time! And you know there will be a next time - the two Star Wars costumes I've already purchased and have hidden away in the basement are testament to that.

Once his bear was fully costumed, Mister Man went to create his birth certificate. I learned the last time we went to Build-A-Bear workshop to make a bear that I want to leave myself plenty of time so we aren't rushed at any particular spot. Creating the birth certificate is something that Mister Man is old enough to do, but it takes him time as he thinks about what each question is asking and then has to find the keys on the keyboard. I love giving him this bit of independence, and kudos to Build-A-Bear Workshop for making it simple enough that a child can do.

The process may have taken us longer than I anticipated (partly due to my own forgetfulness with the camera!), but Midnight the bear is now a happy member of our home. And Mister Man couldn't be prouder.

Yes, I have lots more photos, but I'm still waiting for them to arrive from my phone to my email - I'll update as soon as I can!

Are you jealous? Build-A-Bear Workshop has exclusive offers available on their Facebook page, and they now have an iPhone app, too! I've heard that there will be great offers on Thanksgiving Day and Black Monday online, as well as in stores throughout the weekend. I advise you go check it out.

Oh, did I forget to mention that I have a $25 gift card to Build-A-Bear Workshop to give away? Silly me. Apparently it's not just my camera that I'm forgetting!

So what do you have to do to win the gift card? First of all, let me stress that you must follow all the rules. If you do not follow the rules, your entry will not count!

This contest is open until Tuesday December 7 at 7pm CST. I must have a valid way to reach you, so leave me your email address in your comment or be sure your profile has your email address visible. Winners will be selected via random.org and must respond within 24 hours of being notified by me or I will select a new winner.

Giveaway: Fiber One

Apparently it's food week over at this blog. I'm ok with that though - I love food, and I try to eat healthfully. One of the nutrients that I know I don't get enough of is fiber. And we all know why fiber is important...

Fiber One has a variety of products to easily get you additional fiber - and they're pretty tasty, too. I was able to try a Fiber One cereal and Fiber One bars thanks to MyBlogSpark.

I chose the Fiber One Caramel Delight, because it sometimes feels kind of good to eat something healthy and still have it be a complete treat. Yep, my caramel delight cereal has 9 grams of fiber - 35% of the recommended daily amount. The squares are pretty yummy - crunchy and yet a little bit sweet.

I liked the cereal just by itself, which is always a good thing. I also tried it the more traditional way in milk, and that was pretty good, too. The cereal did eventually get soggy, but not as quickly as most cereals. I'm guessing that's because of the extra fiber. And yes, the milk was pretty yummy by the time I finished off the cereal portion.

The Fiber One bar I tried was the chocolate mocha. I'm always a little leery of bars like this, as so many of them have a slightly funky aftertaste to them. Then again, I have a hypersensitive palate, and most people don't notice them. These bars don't have that taste - phew!

I love mocha. It's one of the few types of coffee I can drink (and enjoy). The bars do a fair representation of the mocha flavor, including the little bitty bite of coffee. And with another 9 grams of fiber, I'm doing pretty well! They are only 140 calories apiece, which is a nice snack size amount. These aren't total health foods - after all, it has the dreaded HFCS and HMCS, which means I won't be sharing these with the wee ones. I'd love to see these made more with honey and other natural sweeteners - or even to be less sweet than they are currently.

If I move to the oats and chocolate version of the bars, I can at least avoid the HFCS. There are other products in the Fiber One line that don't include those dreaded (for me) ingredients, and that's where I'm spending my $25 Safeway gift card. I can't wait to try out some of their bread products and other cereals - I can't have too many open in my house at once, but I'm definitely looking forward to trying my next one!

Are you jealous of my fiber intake now? You don't have to be. One lucky reader will win a Fiber One gift pack that includes a VIP coupon for a Fiber One cereal, a VIP coupon for a pack of Fiber One bars, and a $25 gift card to Safeway (Dominick’s, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Vons, and Genuardi’s). It's one way to counteract all the junk food you'll be eating over the holidays, right?

So what do you have to do?

First of all, let me stress that you must follow all the rules. If you do not follow the rules, your entry will not count!

This contest is open until Wednesday November 24 at 7pm CST.

Mandatory Entry: What Fiber One product would you purchase first with your $25 gift card?

Bonus Entries (leave a comment for each entry - if you put it all in one comment, I'll count it as one entry):

1) Earn one additional entry for following me on Twitter and tweeting this contest with the following tweet: Enjoy fiber from Fiber One with a prize pack including a $25GC from @honestandtruly http://honestandtrulyreviews.blogspot.com/2010/11/giveaway-fiber-one.html #giveaway" (leave a link to your tweet as your comment and make sure you do all the steps!)
2) Earn one additional entry by following this review blog publicly via Google Friend Connect.
3) Earn one additional entry by following my “regular” blog Honest & Truly! publicly via Google Friend Connect.

Good luck!

In the interest of full disclosure, I received a Fiber One gift pack as described above for review purposes from MyBlogSpark. I did not receive any compensation, and all opinions expressed are my own.

Giveaway: $25 Wal-Mart Gift Card

In the interest of full disclosure, P&G and MyBlogSpark provided me with the Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionPacs kit, as well as the $25 Walmart gift card that I am giving away. All opinions expressed are my own.

We've all been there before - dishes go into the dishwasher, and they come out looking pretty much the same as when they went in. I have really hard water where I live, which only exacerbates the problem - and I'm not a rinser.

P&G and MyBlogSpark dared me to try to stump the new Cascade ActionPacs. They asked me to make a blueberry cobbler, then let the dirty dish sit for twenty-four hours before washing it with their new ActionPacs.

Ha!

While I'm a fan of Cascade (I'm already a regular user of Cascades gel packs), that seemed a little extreme to me. Anything crusty sitting does not come out in my dishwasher. Ever. I make my husband hand wash those. And I'm a frequent user of the pots and pans setting on my dishwasher, too.

And blueberries stain, too. Have you ever tried to get blueberry out of clothing?

So I set about making blueberry cobbler (remember my Tasty Tuesday recipe?). And then my family set about eating it. Granted, it took us awhile as we don't eat sweets all the time, but we eventually finished it off. I've since been asked to make it again. And again.

I let the pan air dry for another day before putting it in the dishwasher with the new Cascade pacs. Before placing it in the dishwasher, I tried to swipe off some of the remaining blueberry with my finger. I couldn't. It was completely glued on.

Into the dishwasher it went.

When it came out, all those nasty sticky swipes and swirls were gone. Amazingly. The only thing remaining were some round blueberry stains where the blueberries had once sat. This was actually stained into the ceramic and not something that the detergent failed to get off. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed.

If only Cascade could some up with something to remove the blueberry stains from Mister Man's school shirts....

In the meantime, I'm not the only one benefitting here. I have a $25 Wal-Mart gift card from MyBlogSpark and P&G to give away to one lucky winner. You could use it to purchase some of the new Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionPacs or something else, but who can't use that?

So what do you need to do?

First of all, let me stress that you must follow all the rules. If you do not follow the rules, your entry will not count!

This contest is open until Sunday June 13 at 7pm CST.

Mandatory Entry: Tell me what dish makes the biggest mess in your kitchen. What do you avoid making because you hate the cleanup it requires?

Bonus Entries (leave a comment for each entry - if you put it all in one comment, I'll count it as one entry):

1) Earn one additional entry for Tweeting this contest (leave a link to your tweet as your comment).
2) Earn one additional entry by following this review blog publicly via Google Follower.
3) Earn one additional entry by following my “regular” blog Honest & Truly! publicly via Google Follower.
