Giveaway: Fiber One

Apparently it's food week over at this blog. I'm ok with that though - I love food, and I try to eat healthfully. One of the nutrients that I know I don't get enough of is fiber. And we all know why fiber is important...

Fiber One has a variety of products to easily get you additional fiber - and they're pretty tasty, too. I was able to try a Fiber One cereal and Fiber One bars thanks to MyBlogSpark.

I chose the Fiber One Caramel Delight, because it sometimes feels kind of good to eat something healthy and still have it be a complete treat. Yep, my caramel delight cereal has 9 grams of fiber - 35% of the recommended daily amount. The squares are pretty yummy - crunchy and yet a little bit sweet.

I liked the cereal just by itself, which is always a good thing. I also tried it the more traditional way in milk, and that was pretty good, too. The cereal did eventually get soggy, but not as quickly as most cereals. I'm guessing that's because of the extra fiber. And yes, the milk was pretty yummy by the time I finished off the cereal portion.

The Fiber One bar I tried was the chocolate mocha. I'm always a little leery of bars like this, as so many of them have a slightly funky aftertaste to them. Then again, I have a hypersensitive palate, and most people don't notice them. These bars don't have that taste - phew!

I love mocha. It's one of the few types of coffee I can drink (and enjoy). The bars do a fair representation of the mocha flavor, including the little bitty bite of coffee. And with another 9 grams of fiber, I'm doing pretty well! They are only 140 calories apiece, which is a nice snack size amount. These aren't total health foods - after all, it has the dreaded HFCS and HMCS, which means I won't be sharing these with the wee ones. I'd love to see these made more with honey and other natural sweeteners - or even to be less sweet than they are currently.

If I move to the oats and chocolate version of the bars, I can at least avoid the HFCS. There are other products in the Fiber One line that don't include those dreaded (for me) ingredients, and that's where I'm spending my $25 Safeway gift card. I can't wait to try out some of their bread products and other cereals - I can't have too many open in my house at once, but I'm definitely looking forward to trying my next one!
